Cataract refers to a symptom of lenticular opacity that results from a certain cause. As the crystalline lens becomes opaque, it prevents the image of an object from passing through the lens. Accordingly, focus is not formed accurately on the retina, resulting in the loss of sight, which is the most important function of the eyes.

The most frequently occurring cataract is he senile cataract, caused by aging of the eyes. Senile cataract causes lowered eyesight in 70% of people in their 60s and 90% of those in their 70s.
