Radiation therapy   plays an important role in cancer treatment. It is administered singularly or concurrently with surgical treatment or chemotherapy. With the advancement of computers and the related manufacturing technologies, radiation therapy equipment have evolved from 2D to 3D treatment and even to stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT). Most recently, volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) has been developed and is being currently in use.

KNUH introduced RapidArc from Varian in the United States, a state-of-the-art equipment enabling VMAT, and thus marked a milestone in radiation therapy for cancer patients.
